Abstract
Both magneto-optical effect and ferromagnetic resonance linewidth depend on the L-S coupling of related electrons. Polar Kerr rotation (θk) spectra and ferromagnetic resonance at 9 GHz of polycrystalline BiYCaVIn iron garnets with different indium content were studied. The peak value of θk at 2.7 eV, induced by Bi, decreases as In content increases. ƊH also decreass with In content. It is suggested that the octahetral Fe3+ ions which are substituted by In3+ also contribute to the new peak of θk and the indium substitution results in change of the mixing of Bi orbitals and change of L-S coupling of Fe3+ in garnet.
