Abstract
Magnetization measurements up to 35 T at 4.2 K on Ge1-xGdxAl3 show that there is a strong antiferromagnetic coupling in this system. For x below the percolation threshold for antiferromagnetism the magnetization only saturates at the highest fields. For GdAl3, which exhibits spin frustration, a spin-flop transition is observed at approximately 6 T. For higher fields the magnetization is proportional to B up to the highest fields. The anisotropy and exchange fields of GdAl3 are estimated to be about 0.3 and 60 T, respectively.
