Abstract
CoCrAl alloys, which are widely used as oxidation-resistant coatings on high temperature nicke1-base superalloy turbine components, have been examined by APFIM and AEM. The complex microstructures that are developed in these alloys are readily amenable to APFIM-TEM characterization. In this paper, we report microstructural and microchemical observations of the phases present in a Co-20 wt. % Cr-10 wt. % Al alloy (nominal composition) with particular emphasis on the combined TEM-APFIM identification of fine second phase precipitates.
