Abstract
The emission sign of the average emission angle of non-equilibrium light particles was determined from the circular polarization of coincident γ-rays emitted from residual nuclei in 14N-induced reactions' on 154Sm at E/A=20 and 35 MeV. Positive polarization as large as 35% was observed indicating that light particles are emitted preferentially to negative angles. The polarization becomes more pronounced as the mass and energy of the detected particle increases. The observations demonstrate deflection of light particles by the attractive nuclear mean field, in qualitative agreement with numerical calculations solving the Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck equation.
