COMPOSITIONAL EFFECTS ON SOME PHYSICAL PROPERTIES ON Fe-Si-B METALLIC GLASSES

Abstract
Data on crystallization temperature (Tx), saturation magnetostriction (λs), forced volume magnetostriction (σω/ σH) and Young's modulus (E) were reported for various metallic glasses of nominal compositions FexSi90-xB10 (68<x<84) and Fe75SiyB25-y (2 < y < 18). It was found, for FexSi90-xB10 alloys, that an addition of Si to Fe-B binary alloys increases Tx, however it decreases Tx in case of high Si concentrations in Fe75SiyB25-y. The observed values of λs are higher as compared with Fe-B binary alloys, and strongly depend on the Si content. The forced volume magnetostriction is almost independent of x up to x = 75 and it is relatively low (about 18.10-10 Oe-1) ; however it increases at higher Fe concentrations. Young's modulus greatly depends on the Si/B ratio in Fe75SiyB25-y glasses.
