Abstract
The decay of a sharp-surface hot zone, if formed in nuclear collisions, is studied in classical energy-transport model and in the semi-classical VUU framework. Convection is dominant. Global thermalization takes a relatively long time, a few 10-21 sec. Being at variance with recent experimental data, this feature casts doubt on sharp hot-zone formation as an intermediate state for excitation in finite nuclei in nuclear collisions.
